Frequently Asked Questions

1Are V-SEAL products wholesale only?
Not at all. We offer professional grade products to the DIY market. V-Seal products typically have a higher active ingredient concentration than products targeted to the DIY market, providing superior water and chemical resistance, and increased durability. You can purchase professional grade V-Seal products directly on our website.
2Why is the concentration of active ingredients in a concrete sealer important?
The concentration of active ingredients in a concrete sealer determines how well it penetrates, bonds, and protects the surface. A higher concentration means deeper penetration into the concrete's pores, a stronger chemical reaction, better water and chemical resistance, and longer-lasting results. If the concentration is too low, the sealer may sit on the surface rather than soaking in, leading to peeling and poor protection. Always check the active ingredient percentage on the technical data sheet, SDS and label. V-Seal products are professional-grade products and typically have a higher concentration of active ingredients than DIY sealers.
3Which sealer should I choose?
When choosing a stone sealer, the most important factors are knowing your stone type and porosity, where it's installed (interior vs. exterior), and what finish appearance you want. You should choose an impregnating sealer over a topical coating in most cases, as it penetrates the stone, won't peel, and allows the stone to breathe while still blocking moisture and stains. Consider longevity and reapplication requirements; a quality impregnating sealer can last 5–10 years, while topical coatings need more frequent maintenance. Matching all of these factors to your specific stone and conditions is what leads to the best long-term result. Use our Product Selector Guide to choose your sealer.
4Which concrete sealer provides the best balance of moisture-resistance and longevity?
From a chemistry perspective, silane/siloxane blends, like V-Stop WB or V-Stop SB, offer the best balance of moisture-resistance and longevity. Silanes penetrate deep into the concrete and chemically bond to the substrate, while siloxanes fill the upper pores and create stronger water repellency at the surface. Together, silane and siloxane provide deep, durable protection that lasts 7–10 years or more without peeling or filming like surface coatings do. Silane/siloxane blends are also breathable, UV-resistant, and out-perform other chemistries in long-term performance and value. Professional grade V-Stop silane/siloxane sealers are available in water-based and solvent-based formulations.
5Can V-SEAL apply the products I'm buying?
At V-Seal, we provide technical experience and unmatched product selection, but we do not apply the product itself. If you would like a referral to a qualified application, please call us at (800) 321.4295.
6Which products are best for harsh outdoor environments?
Solvent-based V-Stop SB provides exceptional water and chemical repellency, and durability. A water-based version, V-Stop WB, is also available. For a more economical, general-purpose application, V-Seal 101 is an excellent choice. Our recommendation may vary depending on the surface, so contact us at (800) 321.4295 if you would like to discuss your project.
7Are V-SEAL products environmentally friendly?
Yes, many of our products are V.O.C. compliant, low odor, and water-based, making them a great option for environmentally sensitive or odor restricted applications. V-Stop WB and V-Seal 101 are water-based penetrating sealers. V-Seal 102 is a water-based sealer and curing compound that meets the ASTM C309 specification. Industra-Gloss WB is a water-based “wet look” sealer. Please consult our technical data sheets for more information regarding specific items.
8What are the main types of concrete sealers?
Our concrete sealers can be broken down into two main categories – (1) reactive penetrating sealers and (1) topical coatings. Reactive penetrating sealers will be products that soak into your surface, creating protection within the surface treated. Typical chemistries include silane, silane/siloxane, and siliconate. Topical coatings will form a film, creating a barrier over the surface you applied it to. Acrylic chemistry is typically used in topical coatings.
9Differences between Industra-Gloss 350 Low & Industra-Gloss WB?
Industra-Gloss 350 Low is a VOC compliant, solvent-based acrylic sealer. It provides a gloss appearance with a “wet-look” upon application. Industra-Gloss WB is a water-based acrylic sealer which provides a satin to semi-gloss finish. Industra-Gloss WB may also be used as a curing compound and it meets the ASTM C309 specification.
10Are there any application restrictions when applying V-Seal sealers??
In order to apply V-Seal sealers, you must make sure your surface is clean and dry. Temperatures should be above freezing for the duration of the application and drying process. Do not allow the material to puddle.
11What preparations should be completed before using a decorative coating?
When applying our decorative coatings, you must first prepare the surface to allow adhesion of the coating. The surface needs to be at a Concrete Surface Profile 3 (CSP 3) via grinding using a 6–16 grit diamond tooling to produce a light, uniform texture suitable for high-build coatings. The surface should be cleaned to remove any oil or grease, and then allowed to dry completely. Please see our CreteFx website for further information. These steps are required to ensure the surface is ready for the application. Failure to complete the proper surface preparation activities will result in a high chance of product failure.
